Award for Best Poster
PhD student Ing. Dániel Gardenö from the research group of Prof. Karel Friess (www.membranegroup.cz) was awarded 2nd place for Best Student Poster at the North American Membrane Society (NAMS) 2025 conference in Nashville, standing out among 155 student presenters from the USA, Europe, and Asia.
Dániel presented results of his work on the use of composite membrane materials based on 2D carbon nanotubes and graphene oxide for ultrafiltration separation of polyethylene glycol (PEG) homolog mixtures. The project was carried out in collaboration with colleagues from Friedrich-Alexander-Universität (FAU) in Erlangen, where Dániel spent 12 months (10/2023–09/2024) supported by a scholarship from the Bayerisch-Tschechische Hochschulagentur (BTHA).
The collaboration with FAU continues through the joint project BTHA-AP-2025-22, titled "Novel precisely tunable 2D-membranes for targeted liquid separation via ultrafiltration (June 1 – November 30, 2025)," which has been awarded the maximum funding of €5,000 as part of BTHA’s 2025 Czech-Bavarian academic project support call.
More details on Dániel’s composite membrane materials can be found in the article Gardenö et al., J. Membr. Sci 729, 2025, 124156, published in late April 2025.
