UCTeam Wins 2nd Place in the Innovation Award at the International SensUs 2026 Competition

The student UCTeam from UCT Prague, led by Professor Zdeněk Slouka, took part in this year’s prestigious international SensUs 2026 competition, focused on the development of biosensors for healthcare applications. Each year, the competition brings together student teams from universities around the world; this year, 18 universities from 12 countries participated.

The theme of SensUs 2026 was continuous monitoring of levodopa in patients with Parkinson’s disease. The teams were tasked with designing and experimentally validating an innovative biosensor that could potentially enable continuous monitoring of levodopa concentrations and contribute to more personalized treatment.

Over several months, UCTeam developed its own solution, which the students then presented and defended before an international expert jury at the final event in Eindhoven. Their work earned them an excellent 2nd place in the Innovation Award category. This award focuses primarily on the technological originality of the proposed biosensor and the team’s approach to its development.

The achievement is particularly valuable because SensUs challenges student teams with a complex task encompassing not only sensor design, but also its fabrication, experimental characterization, interpretation of results, and presentation of the solution to experts from both academia and industry.
