A Smart Sign-Language Application Succeeds in a European Accelerator
A technology developed at the Department of Mathematics, Informatics and Cybernetics that helps people with hearing impairment through a smart sign-language application has just earned third place in the European incubation programme Danube Digital Accelerator.
“Thanks to our involvement in the internal TAČR Sigma Proof of Concept programme, we started to work closely with the Technology Transfer Office (TTO),” says Prof. Jan Mareš, head of the research group. Project manager Dana Douděrová then turned her attention to other technologies developed by the group and searched for suitable pathways for their support through technology transfer.
For the sign-language application — which enables translation between sign language and spoken language — she proposed participation in the Danube Digital Accelerator, and the team was selected. During four intensive months of business training and eight hours of one-to-one mentoring, the two PhD students Daniela Janstová and Jakub Tomeš made significant progress.
“We subsequently submitted the project again to TAČR Sigma PoC and succeeded once more. We are now moving towards a minimum viable product (MVP), we have a clearer idea of our future customers and the barriers to market entry. It has been a major shift in how we view our work, and as a team we really enjoyed the process,” adds Prof. Mareš.
Keep your fingers crossed for the next phase — this is just the beginning.
