Associate Professor Milan Šípek Celebrates His 90th Birthday Today!

Today, Associate Professor Milan Šípek, a prominent figure in the history of UCT Prague, celebrates a remarkable milestone. Born in Brno, he is a long-time resident of Uherský Brod and Červený Vrch in Prague’s Dejvice district.

Both long-standing members of our community and younger generations will certainly be familiar with the legendary Kachekran (Karnaval CHEmiků Končící k RÁNu), which Milan Šípek co-founded as a student in 1959. He personally helped establish its impressive tradition spanning more than fifty years, filled with carnival festivities, masquerade balls, humorous musical performances, and even artistic roller-skating competitions. Employees and students, not only from our university, have enthusiastically participated in these activities over the decades.

The tremendous community spirit created around these events continues to resonate in student life at UCT Prague today. For more than ten years, students from the university’s faculties have competed annually for the Šípek Cup.

The Czech and international academic community, particularly in the field of membrane separation processes, owes Milan Šípek much for his contributions, energy, and ideas. Through his work, he has profoundly influenced the education and research of many generations of students, doctoral candidates, colleagues from the Department of Physical Chemistry at UCT Prague, and numerous researchers in the Czech Republic and abroad.

We warmly congratulate Milan Šípek on his 90th birthday and wish him good health, unwavering optimism, happiness, and many joyful years to come!
